Friend to ‘foe? Leicester set to beat QPR in race for England maestro

Leicester City have edged ahead of fellow Premier League strugglers QPR in the race to sign former Tottenham, West Ham and Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window.
The former England man is currently playing in the MLS for Toronto FC but is reportedly keen on a move back to the English top flight. Although QPR were thought to be the favourites to land the 32 year-old due to his long-standing association with Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, Leicester are now believed to have overtaken them.
Bottom of the table with 10 points and winless since September, the Foxes are finding life back in the top flight difficult. Star striker Leandro Ulloa has hit a bad run of form after an impressive start, which has prompted Leicester boss Nigel Pearson to look for an alternative in January.
With his proven track record of scoring goals in the Premier League and his vast experience, bringing Defoe to the King Power Stadium would represent a coup for Pearson and the Foxes, who lost to QPR in the league over the weekend. However, they will still need to work hard to stave off interest from the Rs in Defoe.
