Leicester City secured a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.

Daniel Amartey netted the late winner and deservedly drew plenty of praise for his impressive performance but another Leicester star quietly had a supremely impressive showing at the AMEX Stadium. That man was Wilfred Ndidi.

The Nigerian midfielder dubbed “irreplaceable” by Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers started the game in his more natural defensive midfield position after deputising at centre-back last time out against Burnley.

The Seagulls were simply not able to get past him as the former KRC Genk man racked up terrific defensive numbers.

According to WhoScored, Ndidi produced seven interceptions throughout the 90 minutes, just two fewer than all of Graham Potter’s side put together.

He wasn’t done there though as he produced a further four tackles and three clearances to take his total defensive contributions to an absolutely outstanding 14 – by far the most of every single player that took to the pitch on the South Coast.

Ndidi’s contributions were key then as he was able to wrestle back control of the midfield following a poor start, allowing Leicester to mount their dramatic comeback.

Now rated at £40.5m, he has developed into one of the most dominant defensive midfielders in European football.

After joining Leicester mid-way through the 2016/17 season, he topped the tackle statistics for the Premier League in each of the following two seasons, whilst he was second to only Aaron Wan-Bissaka last term.

His interception statistics have also been extremely impressive in his time in the East-Midlands, too. That fact was exemplified with the huge numbers that Ndidi managed to rack up on the South Coast in Leicester’s win.

Now over the injury worries that plagued him in the early weeks of the campaign, he is surely set to continue being a key player as the Foxes hunt down a UEFA Champions League place come the end of the season.
