Leicester City could receive a welcome boost this weekend, with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel closing in on a return to fitness.
The Danish shot-stopper has been absent since November 2 after he fractured his hand during a Champions League match against Copenhagen in his homeland.
Ron-Robert Zieler has been deputising in Schmeichel’s absence, but he has conceded 17 goals in that time.
The Foxes have struggled to mirror that form that made them Premier League champions last season as they currently sit 14th in the table, just four points above the relegation zone.
The team have won just four of their 17 top-flight fixtures in this campaign, and it seemed as though the tide could be turning last weekend when they stunned Manchester City to claim a 4-2 triumph, but they were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth on Tuesday night in the South Coast.
With regards to Schmeichel’s fitness, Ranieri told reporters:
“He’s trained very well today and we will check on him tomorrow. He could be back, we will see how he is. He’s feeling good but we need to see if there’s any reaction.”
Leicester have kept just three clean sheets so far in their defence of the Premier League title.
