Manchester United were heavily linked with a deal for centre-back Harry Maguire on deadline day, but Leicester fans on Twitter were absolutely buzzing when the window closed and the 25-year-old was still at the club.

The Englishman played every minute of Leicester's Premier League campaign last season as the Foxes finished ninth in the table. His composure on the ball and ability to drive forward from the back then earned him a starting spot in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad, and Maguire became an unlikely cult hero as England reached the semi-finals.

Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, Maguire will now line up against United on Friday night for Leicester after the Red Devils missed out on all of their defensive targets.

Leicester also confirmed the signings of young centre-backs Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg and Filip Benkovic from Dinamo Zagreb on deadline day, after also securing the services of West Brom's Jonny Evans earlier in the window.
