Leicester have joined a host of Europe’s elite teams in the race for Santos’ Gabriel Barbosa, with an offer from the King Power Stadium expected before the close of the transfer window, according to reports from UOL Esporte.
The 19-year-old forward has emerged as one of the top talents in Brazilian football over the course of the past 12 months or so, drawing comparisons with Neymar and earning the nickname ‘Gabigol’ for his goalscoring exploits – he’s scored 24 times in league action despite his tender age.
Naturally, his razor-sharp form has attracted attention from a host of huge European clubs, with Juventus, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain just a few to have been aligned with the teenager.
However, reports claim that Leicester see a swoop for Gabriel as viable and it’s expected that they will make a move for the starlet before the close of the transfer window.
The Foxes are currently the reigning champions of England after their heroic 2015/16 campaign and could offer the attacker regular game time, with the player able to function on either flank, as a ‘No.10’ or as a central striker.
A decision on his future is not expected until his Olympic Games duties with Brazil’s U-23s are over.
