Rob Tanner of The Athletic spoke about the prospect of Leicester City having to play without Jamie Vardy following the 2-0 victory against Arsenal.

What did he say?

When Jamie Vardy stayed down holding his elbow, many involved with Leicester will have had their heart in their mouth, hoping he would be okay.

The former England international was eventually able to get up and continue the game, but those moments where he looked in trouble brought questions to the minds of some Foxes fans.

One supporter asked whether Leicester have enough firepower to cover Vardy in the eventuality he does pick up an injury, during a Q&A, to which Tanner replied:

"Vardy is so important to Leicester! I would be worried too. Iheanacho has scored two in the Carabao Cup but he is no Vardy at the moment. In fact, every team would want a Vardy."

Key man

Vardy has been key for Leicester, getting 11 goals and 2 assists in 12 Premier League games this campaign, which is a highly impressive return.

He has been so impressive that Kelechi Iheanacho has been a spectator throughout the season, failing to play a single minute in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has scored in both of his Carabao Cup appearances - against Luton Town and Burton Albion - but it is difficult to suggest that he would be able to step into Vardy's shoes, even with James Maddison and Youri Tielemans behind them.

This point is accentuated by the fact he has scored just four Premier League goals since joining Leicester for the 2017/18 campaign - Vardy exceeded that total in his last three games.

Brendan Rodgers' comment about Vardy, as quoted by The Mirror, also indicates how important he is for the team:

“He’s very concentrated in his game, very focused in the game. He’s a striker who is very rarely offside because of the timing of his runs. You have to be so clever and bright to do that. He’s playing so well, like all of them.”

It is undoubted that were anything to happen to Vardy, it would be a massive blow for Leicester.
