Leicester’s interest in Praet doesn’t make much sense

According to Gianluca di Marzio, Leicester are interested in signing Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet this summer.

What’s the word?

Leicester have had a busy few weeks in the transfer market, securing the signings of three players in a short space of time.

James Justin became the first player to walk through the doors of the King Power before landmark arrivals in Ayoze Perez and Youri Tielemans were confirmed.

However, they now appear to be attracted to another midfielder, per a report from journalist Di Marzio.

He suggests that both Valencia and the Foxes are interested in the Belgian.

Sky in Italy previously reported that he could cost over £15m if he departs Italy for pastures new.

Strange pursuit

Considering Leicester have already signed one creative midfielder this summer in Tielemans, pursuing another one really doesn’t make too much sense.

It’s likely that the fellow Belgian would be preferred deeper in the middle of the park next to Wilfred Ndidi, a position of the pitch he played in for the majority of his loan spell in the Midlands.

James Maddison starred as the number ten, creating exactly 100 chances in the Premier League last season, so with that in mind, it would be difficult to see where Praet would fit in.

Having scored two times and assisted three strikes in one of Europe’s top five leagues, it’s hard to deny he’d be a good signing, especially after featuring 98 times in Serie A throughout his career.

Yet, their pursuit of a player who has been capped three times at international level feels wide of the mark this summer.

At this stage, Leicester could be better off investing in other areas, particularly with Hamza Choudhury also rising through the ranks in midfield.

They have plenty of options in that area of the pitch and in truth, don’t exactly need him at this present moment in time.

The Foxes could, therefore, be making an error of judgement in trying to lure him to the Midlands.
