According to The Daily Mail, Leicester are monitoring one of the star performers in the Championship last season; John McGinn.

What's the word?

Leicester's midfield is a particular area of strength but after seeing Youri Tielemans return to Monaco they are short of a body in that area of the pitch.

As a result, bringing in a midfielder is arguably a wise idea. Tielemans may well return to the club after The Telegraph reported that they were leading the race to sign the Belgian.

However, another central player could also arrive at the King Power this summer after The Daily Mail reported that Leicester are monitoring Aston Villa's McGinn.

They suggest that the midfield man is in talks over a new long-term deal with the Villans in a bid to fend off interest from both the Foxes and West Ham.

Setback for Choudhury

McGinn was absolutely exceptional in the Championship last term, finding the net seven times whilst also claiming nine assists as he helped Villa earn promotion.

It was a fabulous record and it shall be intriguing to see how he transfers his qualities into the top tier of English football.

Whether that happens with Villa though remains to be seen.

Yet, if the Scottish international does join Leicester over the transfer window his arrival has the potential to be a major blow for Hamza Choudhury.

The youngster started to become a regular fixture in Brendan Rodgers' side towards the back end of the campaign but the arrival of McGinn could well force him back to the bench.

Although the Scot offers more going forward than Choudhury, the Villa man is also solid defensively and isn't afraid to get stuck in. That's evident in the 14 yellow cards he picked up last season.

Considering Wilfred Ndidi is Leicester's main holding player in the middle of the park, starting 37 times in 2018/19, Rodgers is unlikely to have any concerns about dropping another more conservative midfielder in Choudhury if McGinn arrives.

For a Foxes player who starred against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal last term, this would be a major setback in his quest to start more games.
