Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire popped up at a vital time for England on Saturday afternoon when he met Ashley young’s corner to crash a powerful header into the back of the net and put England in the lead.
The goal, Maguire’s first on the international stage, proved to be the winner as England overcame Sweden 2-0 in the World Cup quarter-final tie. The victory secured the Three Lions’ passage to the semi-final stage. The last time England made it so far at a World Cup was 1990, the only occasion the country have gone further is 1966.
Aside from his all-important contribution at the top, Maguire was once again a rock at the back for Gareth Southgate’s side. As he has been throughout the tournament, the burly defender was on hand to win aerial duel after aerial duel.
Whilst England ‘keeper Jordan Pickford left the Samara Arena with the Man of the Match award, there were plenty of Leicester fans on Twitter singing the praises of the Foxes’ all-action centre-back…
Make sure you don't sell him. We need to keep him at LCFC
