Rob Tanner has given an update on Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi's fitness during a Q&A on The Athletic.

What's the story?

Wilfred Ndidi was unavailable for Leicester's 2-1 loss against Burnley, having also missed out in the 2-1 defeat by Southampton.

It can perhaps be suggested that there is no coincidence that these two losses came while the Nigeria international was absent.

Therefore, fans were keen to find out an update on the 23-year-old's fitness after the game at Turf Moor.

When one fan asked Tanner whether he could come back earlier than expected during the Q&A, The Athletic journalist replied: "Yes, he is back out on the grass doing some running so we will have to see how long before he can play again."

He then later added: "Wilf back on the grass training so perhaps a couple of weeks away."

Massive boost

The Foxes will be very keen to have the midfielder back as soon as possible, even if Nampalys Mendy did put in a positive performance in disappointing circumstances against Burnley - his statistics included a pass success rate of 93% and three tackles won.

However, it can be argued that there is nobody at the club who can replace Ndidi's influence in the holding midfield position.

So far this season, the Nigeria international has made 19 Premier League starts and one substitute appearance, scoring two goals and adding an assist.

He has been heavily involved in the team's defensive play, averaging 4.3 tackles, 2.8 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game.

In addition to that, he makes 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles on average, while also maintaining a pass completion rate of 84.2% throughout the campaign.

All of the above indicates that the 23-year-old is an integral part of the team, so it will undoubtedly be a boost if he can return to action ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, one Leicester target would not fit in with Brendan Rodgers' philosophy.
