If Alexis Sanchez leaves Arsenal this month it will not come as a huge shock given that the attacker has opted against signing a new contract at the Emirates.
However, the Chilean’s destination could potentially raise a few eyebrows.
According to Sky Italy, Manchester United have become a late entry to the race for Sanchez, and the Red Devils are willing to include Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the deal.
It has been widely expected that the Arsenal star would join United’s neighbours Manchester City, but this twist could send the saga into a new direction.
Former footballer and BBC TV host Gary Lineker has given his thoughts on the latest rumours.
The 57-year-old believes that a transfer would “appeal” to both clubs, particularly due to the fact that Arsenal would be gaining a player and not just losing one.
Interesting turn of events with Manchester United coming in for Sanchez, with Mkhitaryan going the other way. Can see the appeal for both clubs. United get a top player, and stop him going to City, and Arsenal get an excellent footballer in place of someone who wants away.

The potential fees that are involved are unclear, but Sky Italy claim that United are prepared to pay more than City for Sanchez’s signature.
