Liverpool ace Rickie Lambert has rejected a late £5million offer to join Aston Villa, according to reports from the Express.
The England international wants to stay and fight for a place in the starting line-up after being targeted by Villa manager Paul Lambert.
The striker made his dream return to Liverpool after being released by the club when he was 15, joining from Southampton in a £4.5million deal following two impressive Premier League seasons with the Saints.
However Lambert only managed to start 10 games for the Reds scoring three goals, and his chances are set to become even more limited with star centre-forward Daniel Sturridge returning to full fitness.
However, Lambert has vowed to challenge for a starting berth, with Italian duo Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli also looking to lead the line for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Lambert was also targeted by Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion, but it’s Villa who were most interested after going 612 minutes without scoring a goal.
