Liverpool have consistently been searching for a decent left-back since the departure of John Arne Riise.
The talented Norwegian was known for his free kicks and great work rate. His constant running, powerful shooting and astute defending earned him over 200 appearances for the Reds. In 2008, Riise made the move to Roma and was replaced by the Brazilian Fabio Aurelio. Unfortunately Aurelio became injury plagued and did not feature as often as he would have liked. Since Aurelio’s decline, many left backs have come and gone.
In 2015, seven years after Riise’s move to Roma, Liverpool signed left back Alberto Moreno from Sevilla. Although the Spaniard is only 21, Liverpool has seemingly solved the ongoing left back issue at last.
Moreno is blessed with impressive pace and defensive intelligence for such a young age. Although not known for his goal scoring, an impressive solo goal against Tottenham at White Hart Lane brought back memories of the marauding Norwegian with his goals and pace. At such a young age, Moreno will have the opportunity to engrave his place into the Liverpool team for years to come and will only hope to have the success that Riise enjoyed at Liverpool.
