Liverpool and Everton in transfer tussle

Yann M'Vila (Rubin Kazan)Liverpool and Everton could go head-to-head in the battle for the signature of Rubin Kazan midfielder Yann M’Vila in January, according to reports from CalcioMercato.

The 23-year-old only joined the Russian side earlier this year – despite interest from Arsenal and QPR – but is already believed to be open to a move away from his current club.

Speculation of a switch to either Liverpool or Everton was fuelled over the weekend, with the player himself being pictured among the away supporters at Goodison Park.

Both Merseyside clubs are thought to be keen to secure midfield reinforcements over the winter, with M’Vila said to be on their respective radars.

The Reds are believed to lead the race, with Brendan Rodgers keen to inject some physicality into his engine room.

The ageing Steven Gerrard and injury-ravaged Lucas Leiva have been impressive for most of the season, but have found their lack of mobility exposed in some of the higher-tempo fixtures.

Everton are also in the race, with the Toffees thought to be long-term admirers of M’Vila.

Roberto Martinez has secured Gareth Barry on loan for the remainder of the season, but he may opt against making a permanent move for the Manchester City man, who is now entering the twilight years of his career.
