The 29-year-old Italy international has been on both the Merseyside rival’s radars throughout the summer as they seek to strengthen their attacking options in the Premier League this season.
But with the summer arrivals of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente, Matri has been told he cannot be guaranteed playing time at the Juventus Stadium, despite signing a two-year contract extension last April, and AC Milan are now favourites to win the race for his signature.
AC Milan are expected to be busy in the final few days of the transfer window now that they have secured their place in this season’s UEFA Champions League and a move for Matri is reportedly imminent, with Juventus willing to do business for around £10million.
Matri began his professional career at the San Siro, making his debut in 2003, but spent three season on loan before a permanent move to Cagliari in 2007.
The Italian hit man made a loan move at Juventus permanent in 2011 after impressing with nine goals in 16 Serie A appearances. He has since made a further 68 appearances for Juventus scoring 20 goals.
