Liverpool & Arsenal handed transfer boost

Arsenal and Liverpool have received a huge boost in their pursuits of Mathieu Valbuena, after Marseille’s interim boss, Jose Anigo, confessed that the midfielder may be sold at the end of the season.

The French playmaker has long been thought of as one of Ligue 1’s finest creative talents, and has become a regular in Les Bleus’ squad over the course of the past few years.

Despite his importance to Marseille, Valbuena has recently been linked with a summer switch away from the club, with Liverpool and Arsenal two sides to have been linked with his signature.

The pint-sized passer has been with the Mediterranean outfit since 2006 but is now rumoured to be seeking a new challenge, and is aware that this off-season may be his last genuine opportunity to join another top club with his 30th birthday approaching.

Valbuena’s contract doesn’t expire until 2017, but Anigo says that he will not be forced to stay if Marseille get a respectable bid and the player indicates that he wants to move:

If we received a good offer, we won’t force him to stay. He has given a lot to our club so if he wants to he can leave,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
