Liverpool & Arsenal transfer blow… Euro giants closing in on top attacker

Liverpool and Arsenal look set for transfer disappointment, with Mundo Deportivo claiming that Barcelona are on the verge of agreeing a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The Argentine attacker is due to be a free agent at the end of the summer, and with his first-team place at the Parc des Princes no longer guaranteed following the arrival of Angel di Maria he’s expected to move on.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with moves for the industrious 30-year-old in recent times, but reports claim that Barca are close to sealing a Bosman deal for him.

It’s believed that the La Liga champions are keen to tie up a pre-contract agreement with the South American in when his contract enters its final six months ahead of a free transfer.

A move for Lavezzi may seem a little left-field considering that the Catalans have a number of world class attackers, but it has been suggested that they’re chasing an experienced squad player, in a deal akin to the one they pulled off to sign Henrik Larsson from Celtic in 2004.
