Liverpool could have replaced Brendan Rodgers in the summer, although the former Anfield boss reportedly convinced the board that he was the man for the job.
Rodgers, who departed the club after three years on Sunday, is now out of a job and currently enjoying a holiday in Spain.
Liverpool have endured a poor start to the Premier League season, recently drawing with Merseyside rivals Everton 1-1 at the weekend. This appeared to be the final blow to Rodgers’ time at the club.
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Jürgen Klopp is understood to be the club’s preferred choice to replace Rodgers, and it seems an announcement on his signing is expected soon.
Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has also been linked with the vacant role, although some have claimed that Liverpool feel he does not have the ‘correct vision’ for their future.
