Liverpool manager’s logic questioned ahead of Real Madrid clash

It appears that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has waved the white flag before a ball has even been kicked in the Bernabeu, ahead of the Reds’ clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Rodgers has taken the decision, ahead of Liverpool’s huge Premier League clash with Chelsea this weekend, to keep Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli, Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson, amongst other key first team players on the bench.

Many will see Rodgers’ decision to field a starting XI that includes underwhelming players such as Markovic and Kolo Toure, as an admission that his side aren’t capable of going toe-to-toe with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.

What do you reckon? Has Rodgers rolled over too easily? Or is he right to focus on the Premier League despite this being Liverpool’s first season back in the Champions League for many years?
