The Saints ace enjoyed, arguably, the best campaign of his career during 2013/14, establishing himself as a key player at St Mary’s Stadium while earning call-ups to the England squad.
However, a serious knee injury at the back end of last term ended his 2014 prematurely, and ruled him out of the World Cup.
The 25-year-old has not yet since in the red and white shirt, but reports claim that he’s closing in on a return, with outings for Saints’ U-21 side expected in the coming weeks to ease him back in.
And despite his injury woes, Liverpool, and Spurs have remained keen.
The pair were both monitoring the versatile attacker at the end of last season, with the latter having registered a deal worth in excess of £16m over the summer.
Moves this month are unlikely given his fitness status, but the pair, and Manchester City, may look at end of season raids.
