Even after a disappointing loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final and the bad finish in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side still showed that the team is headed in the right direction. The German manager never promised an instant title and competition in the PL is pretty hard. Both experts and fans are confident that the team needs just a few more players to be considered a favorite and with World Cup taking place this summer, Liverpool will have plenty of options to pick from.
Already reputed as a second favourite for the 2018-2019 title behind Guardiola’s City on most sports betting sites, it’s clear that Liverpool has grown a lot under Klopp and is only a few pieces away from the long-awaited title. The time to win is now and Klopp and the management are aware of it, which is why they broke the club’s transfer record for Virgil Van Dijk back in January.
However, there are still a few more key areas to reinforce before Liverpool can truly be considered a tour-de-force.
As seen in the CL final, Liverpool’s glaring problem is the lack of a good goalkeeper. If Klopp’s gunning for the title, the team needs a quality goalie. It shouldn’t be a matter of money – if Atletico Madrid is willing to sell, Liverpool should go all in for Jan Oblak. If they don’t manage to get to him, Iker Casillas, Allison, and Jack Butland are great options as well. The search for a goalkeeper should be Klopp’s top priority over the summer.
Even though they made it to the Champions League final without him, losing Coutinho was a big blow for Klopp’s side. That can easily be forgotten if the team manages to get Lyon’s Fekir who’s had an incredible season for the French side. We already know that contact with his agent has been made and the transfer is supposedly dead. However, recent reports are saying that the deal can still happen.
Another young French star, Lemar would solve a ton of problems Liverpool has in the middle. Lemar has already led Monaco to a Ligue 1 title and will probably start for France in the World Cup, making him a perfect choice for Liverpool. However, they will face stern competition from Arsenal and other clubs, so it won’t be an easy mission.
Julian Draxler is a quality player who will be a steal for any team that ends up signing him. Largely left on the bench in PSG, the young German has a lot of tricks in his bag and has already expressed his discontent with the Paris club. If the opportunity to sign him appears, Liverpool shouldn’t hesitate.
One of the highest rated English teenagers, Sessegnon is a fullback with great speed and abilities Klopp’s side could surely use. He’s a great replacement for the departing Alberto Moreno and could be the backbone of Klopp’s team for years to come. Sessegnon should be a no-brainer for Liverpool.
