Liverpool fans on Twitter have been busy talking up Memphis Depay after Robert Pires claimed the Lyon forward is interested in returning to the Premier League.

The Dutch international has been in fine form this season, recording 12 goals and 12 assists for both club and country on his way to reemerging as a world-class talent after his Manchester United nightmare.

Speaking of United, it would be a hugely controversial move if Depay were to arrive at Anfield having already turned out for the Reds' arch-rivals - you only have to look at what some of the fans think of Michael Owen to see the impact of playing for both teams.

Depay now looks much better suited to the Premier League, compared to his stint with the Red Devils in which he looked weak, lost and unprepared having swapped the Eredivisie for England's top flight.

Liverpool could do with some more forwards due to their lack of quality back-up behind Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with only Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri as recognised replacements.

In that respect, a move for the 25-year-old would make sense, and would add to the Dutch contingency at Anfield, what with Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum already being there.

Let's see what the Reds supporters are saying about Depay on Twitter...
