5-0 rout increases pressure on Lambert

Arsenal hammered Aston Villa 5-0 at the Emirates, courtesy of goals from Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin.

The result will come as little surprise to the footballing community given that prior to the match, Villa had gone without scoring a Premier League goal for nearly nine hours.

Indeed, the outcome looking set from the off after Ozil’s deliciously flicked throughball found Giroud in acres of space and the Frenchman duly obliged. The duo swapped roles shortly after, Grioud laying on for the German shortly after the interval.

Walcott got in on the act, before Santi Cazorla tucked home a penalty. Bellerin put the cherry on top of a man-of-the-match winning performance with a well-taken effort in stoppage time.

The result sees Arsenal continue their fine start to 2015 and leapfrog Spurs in the Premier League table. For Lambert, however, things are looking decidedly shaky.
