Aston Villa hitman Christian Benteke is set to have a medical at Liverpool in the next 48 hours after the two Premier League clubs reached an agreement over the player’s £32.5 million transfer, according to BBC Sport.
Liverpool’s club doctor is now expected to leave the Reds’ pre-season tour of Australia early and head back to Merseyside to complete the Belgian’s medical in the coming few days.
However, it is understood that the 24-year-old striker will not fly out to Australia for the remainder of the tour to meet up with his new Liverpool team-mates.
Benteke joined Villa from Belgian side Genk in 2012 for £7 million and went on to become a huge success at the Midlands club, scoring 49 goals in 101 games.
The Reds decided to bid for the striker after receiving funds from the £49 million sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City.
Benteke still has two years left on his Villa contract, but the club are now powerless to prevent him from departing after the Reds decided to meet his £32.5 million release clause.
