Liverpool fans perhaps saw Stoke at home as a foregone conclusion ahead of kick-off at Anfield this evening. The Potters have not been on fire of late while the Reds were well-rested following their Merseyside Derby heroics before Christmas, some eight days ago.
However, the Potters have been by far the more alert side so far on the banks of the River Mersey and got their noses in front via Jonathan Walters. A ball whipped in from the left flank from Eric Pieters was nodded in the by the Irishman, whose effort flew in at the near post despite Simon Mignolet getting a hand to the ball.
Liverpool fans knew who they blamed for the goal in the immediate aftermath and, in a slight change from normal, it was not the goalkeeper! Instead, Dejan Lovren was on the end of some abuse on social media, with supporters angered by how readily he allowed Walters to get in in front of him, and to be fair, they have a point…
Here are some of the best, and most clean, reactions…
Such a poor goal. Lovren clueless to Walters’ movement and Migs with a weak hand. 0-1 Stoke after a bright start from us.

Poor by Lovren, he had no idea where he nor Walters were in relation to our goal. Lost his bearings.

That goal was just awful defending. No close out on Pieters and Lovren fell asleep on Walters

I have no idea why Klopp persists with Lovren. He is awful. #LIVSTK

Dejan Lovren is one of the worst football players I’ve ever seen
