The Reds yesterday settled on a £16m fee – although the player’s agent Mino Raiola hinted that it may be close to £13m – for the AC Milan forward, who travelled to Merseyside to undergo a medical and meet with Brendan Rodgers.
The deal is not expected to be sealed until early next week due to the paperwork involved, but it’s understood that the Anfield club have been suitably convinced by the bad boy striker.
Balotelli has agreed to a contract of around £100,000-per-week, which is half of the figure he has been picking up in Italy.
But his deal is heavily incentivised, with targets and good behaviour possessing the potential to boost his earnings.
Rodgers was thought to have some concerns surrounding the 24-year-old’s conduct and work ethic, but his openness to the demands laid down by Liverpool have convinced the Northern Irishman that the move is a good one.
‘Balo’ will not be eligible to play against his old club Manchester City on Monday, but he looks likely to be ready in time for the trip to Tottenham.
