Barcelona are eyeing a move for Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as a replacement for Luis Suarez, according to OK Diario.

What's the word?

Liverpool's attack has attracted plenty of plaudits during the past 12 months after their superb performances last season but this has led to lurking eyes in the market from a number of European giants.

According to Spanish outlet OK DiarioRoberto Firmino is the latest Reds star to be targeted by La Liga champions Barcelona as they look to unite the 27-year-old with his international colleague Philippe Coutinho.

With Luis Suarez now 31, and scoring 25 goals last season compared to the 40 he hit in the previous campaign, Ernesto Valverde's side are eyeing a long-term replacement for the Uruguayan forward and Firmino is their man.

Could it happen?

Barcelona have a long line of success with Brazilian internationals and the links to Firmino are certainly not surprising. However, it would be a logistical nightmare for the Catalan giants to complete a move - and that is before the price-tag is even considered.

Regulations in Spain permit Barcelona to have only three non-EU players registered in their squad and those slots are taken by Arturo Vidal, Arthur and Malcom, meaning that there is no room to register Firmino and, with the trio all signed in 2018, a shake-up seems unlikely.

For a move for the 27-year-old to go ahead, Barcelona would have to land one of the aforementioned trio a European passport or secure one for the Liverpool forward. Looking between the lines though, the links stand merely as gossip and fans should not be concerned.
