Benitez plotting transfer raid on Liverpool

Daniel Agger (Liverpool)Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is keen to raid former club Liverpool in January for the signature of Daniel Agger, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Danish international is thought of as a key player at Anfield, but there have been small murmurings of discontent coming from the Scandinavian’s camp in recent weeks.

Agger found himself out of Brendan Rodgers’ first-team recently after recovering from injury thanks to the form of the likes of Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure.

He has since slotted back into the Reds’ set-up, but could still be tempted by a move away from Merseyside.

Benitez – who signed the centre-back from Brondby in 2006 while at Liverpool – is known to be a fan of the classy defender, and would like to make him a part of his Napoli side.

He is said to be ready to offer Agger a significant pay rise in the hope that he can tempt him to relocate to Naples.

The Kop vice captain rejected a switch to Barcelona over the summer, and has been consistently linked with big moves over the course of the past few years.

Rodgers is thought o be keen to keep his man, who is seen as integral member of the club’s squad.
