Boss calls for focus amid Liverpool transfer saga

Liverpool's Luis Suarez

Brendan Rodgers wants his Liverpool players to remain focused amidst the Luis Suarez transfer saga, according to the Guardian.

The Uruguayan has made it clear he wants to leave the Reds, with the Emirates his preferred destination.

Liverpool have rejected two bids from Arsenal for Suarez, and have remained firm on their stance that the striker is not for sale. Now Rodgers wants to make sure that the saga does not distract his first team squad:

“There’s too much good work gone on here for it to be overtaken by anything else,” said Rodgers. “The players have worked so hard, their concentration has been brilliant and we are all very determined this year.”

“I can’t let anything detract from that. Nothing can sabotage what we are trying to do. I don’t really want to go on about it. It’s just something we cannot afford to happen.”

The Northern Irishman then said he would not be answering any more questions on the forward until he was available for selection, as he turned his attention to hosting Stoke on Saturday afternoon:

“There’s nothing to be said that hasn’t already been said. My only concentration is the players who are available. They’ve worked tirelessly and purely out of respect for them and the work that has gone on, I only want to talk about them.”

The Potters travel to Anfield for the first match of the new Premier League season, kicking off at 12:45.

How do Reds fans feel about Suarez? How has Rodgers handled the saga?
