Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will look to solve his striker shortage by bringing in Didier Drogba on loan in January according to The Mirror.

Drogba’s time in China, playing for Shanghai Shenhua, has not been successful with his club debating whether to release the former Chelsea striker as his astronomical wages have had a huge impact on the clubs finances.

The 34-year-olds family still live in London and are thought to welcome a loan move to Liverpool, where the physical striker could help Rodgers’ striker crisis as Luis Suarez continues to carry the burden for the whole team.

If all goes to plan, Liverpool will pay a percentage of Drogba’s wage for a three month loan deal, but have an option to buy the striker permanently when his contract nears its end.

Drogba wants to keep fit and play first team football when the Chinese season ends next week as the Ivorian will lead his country in January’s African cup of Nations.
