Carragher discusses Liverpool’s goalkeeping issues

Having splashed the cash to bring Loris Karius to Anfield in the summer, Liverpool have recalled Simon Mignolet for the most recent clash with Stoke City but the Belgian stopper was guilty of a high-profile error.

With the Reds now having two unconvincing goalkeeper’s amidst their squad, a debate has raged in the past week as to what Jurgen Klopp should do moving forward- and former defender Jamie Carragher believes it’s a big issue.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Stoke, the former Reds defender said:

“Liverpool have got a goalkeeping problem, it’s not just one individual. The reason Loris Karius was brought in is because Jurgen Klopp didn’t think Simon Mignolet was good enough – he’s now gone back to him.”

“Yes, you can say it’s poor defensively but at times you want your keeper to bail you out when you make mistakes – that’s what he’s there for. I’m a centre-back myself and you don’t play a game without making mistakes and that’s where your keeper comes into it.”

With both stoppers not impressing this season, Liverpool mat struggle to emerge successful in their quest to beat the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City to the Premier League title and the Merseyside giants seem to have a few problems they need to fix.
