Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has heralded the Reds as the ‘real deal’ this season, after Jurgen Klopp’s side’s hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace this weekend.
The Reds survived two setbacks to emerge as 4-2 victors and keep level with the leading pack at the top of the Premier League standings, as they enter November.
Klopp’s side are being tipped as title contenders due to their fine form this season but, despite insisting they’re the ‘real deal’, Carragher told Monday Night Football (via the Mirror) he would not get carried away.
“If someone would have said Liverpool would have been around top four – if they had been sixth or seventh and a couple of points off the top four – at this stage of the season, Liverpool fans will have been delighted, because of the tough start they had and the away games.”
“At Crystal Palace, defensively there are still a few problems there, but the intensity with which they play with the ball, the way in which they close people down, is reminiscent of a few years ago.”
Carragher believes the displays Liverpool are putting on echo the performances of a few years ago, where Brendan Rodgers came close to winning the Premier League in the 2013/14 season – led by Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.
Whether Liverpool can keep up their current form remains to be seen but they’ll be confident for the month ahead. with winnable fixtures against Watford, Southampton and Sunderland.
