According to Goal, Chelsea rejected the chance to sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir, which should be taken as a warning to fellow admirers Liverpool.

What's the word?

For weeks it seemed that Fekir, rated at £54m by Transfermarkt, was on the verge of moving to Anfield to become part of Jurgen Klopp's team.

However, the deal ended up collapsing over concerns relating to a previous knee injury suffered by the Frenchman.

The link to Liverpool continued to rumble, but at the last minute, Chelsea emerged as rumoured contenders.

According to Goal, the Blues held talks with Lyon regarding a move, but in the end, Maurizio Sarri's side opted against pursuing as they already had enough options in that area of the pitch.

Should Liverpool have a rethink?

It is uncertain whether the Merseyside outfit are planning to revive their interest in Fekir.

Judging by the social media channels, though, plenty of fans are keen for the midfielder to be Philippe Coutinho's replacement.

However, if these latest reports are to be believed, then Liverpool should not ignore the fact that another Premier League club did not want to go ahead with a deal.

The reasons may be different, but it is important for manager Jurgen Klopp to fill his team with top talent rather than spending a vast amount of money on a risk.
