According to Goal.com, Nottingham Forest are interested in taking Pedro Chirivella on loan.

What's the story?

The 22-year-old featured against Everton in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, but it looks as though he could be on the move to the Championship side.

The Reds were unwilling to let him leave before the match against the Toffees, and his display could prompt further interest, so the former European champions could have a fight on their hands to sign him.

Needs to be sold

The ex-Spain U17 international did well against Carlo Ancelotti's men. Some supporters were so impressed with his performance at Anfield that they compared him to Xabi Alonso - a perhaps obvious comparison as he is one of the few other Spanish midfielders to appear for them.

The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?

He had also recently captained the side as well, taking the armband during the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa as the senior players departed for the Club World Cup. The fact of the matter is, though, that he has next to no future at Anfield. Since joining the club in 2013 from Valencia, he has made just nine appearances for the Anfield outfit, even though he is comfortably in his twenties. Instead, he has either spent his time out on loan, or in the club's U23 system.

There has been talk of a new contract, and that speculation has increased following the display in the cup. However, neither a loan nor a fresh deal makes sense. With just six months left currently, Chirivella's time with the Premier League leaders is surely up. What can he give Jurgen Klopp that Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum and the rest can't? He hasn't forced his way into the 52-year-old's plans so far despite him being at the club during the entirety of the former Borussia Dortmund manager's reign, so why would that change now?

With a Transfermarkt market value of £720,000, his sale would not bring in any significant cash even with a new contract. As he approaches the final few months of his deal, it is time for all involved to move on.
