Liverpool have made a bid for Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

What's the story?

It's no secret that Liverpool's goalkeeping situation is something of a headache for manager Jurgen Klopp, with current options Simon Mignloet and Loris Karius inspiring very little confidence in their teammates.

After Karius' horror show which cost Liverpool the Champions League final, Jurgen Klopp is keen to upgrade this summer and has been scouring the market for a replacement.

The latest report indicates that Liverpool have submitted a bid for Jasper Cillesson, the 29-year-old Dutch international who plays second fiddle to Ter Stegen at the Nou Camp.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the shot-stopper is said to be analysing the offer from Liverpool as he considers his future at the Spanish giants, although Chelsea could also join the race if Thibaut Courtois is sold.

Cheap alternative to Alisson

Cillessen has established himself as the Copa del Rey goalkeeper for Barcelona, winning the trophy in both seasons he has been at the club.

Valued at £8.1million on Transfermarkt, he would be a much cheaper alternative to Roma goalkeeper Alisson who has also been touted with a move to Anfield, but the Italian club want £79million for the Brazilian.
