Crystal Palace arrival rejected Liverpool, says his father

Paul Ince has revealed that his son, Tom, turned down January interest from Liverpool to join Crystal Palace.

The highly-rated winger completed a loan move to Selhurst Park shortly before the transfer window closed last month after Blackpool finally succumbed to his wishes to leave.

Interest in the England U-21 star was high, with a number of Premier League sides holding talks with him in a bid to snap him up for at least the rest of the season.

Liverpool were among the sides looking to thrash out a deal, but Ince Sr says that a switch to Anfield at this time would not have been the right move for the youngster:

“Liverpool were in but I don’t think Thomas is ready to go to Liverpool yet.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“Brendan [Rodgers] has done very well there and he does play the kids but for his progression as a footballer it needed to be a Stoke, a Swansea, a Palace or a Hull at this point.

“Maybe in two or three years’ time that might be a move for him.”

Ince Jr started his playing career at Liverpool, but left as a talented starlet in search of regular first-team action.

He found just that at Blackpool, but he is ready to leave Bloomfield Road permanently at the end of the season when his contract expires.
