Liverpool could sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer for a cut price, according to Corriere dello Sport.

What's the story?

Even though Loris Karius has improved between the sticks for the Reds, there is still a sense that the club need a new goalkeeper.

Liverpool's current two - Karius and Simon Mignolet - have failed for consistency, which is something that the club require in order to step up to the next level.

According to Corriere dello Sport, it seems that the Premier League outfit are edging closer to finding a new shot-stopper as AC Milan are believed to be willing to drop their asking price for Donnarumma.

The report claims that the Italian giants wanted in the region of £70m for the 19-year-old, who is valued at £36m by Transfermarkt.

However, it has now been stated that Milan are willing to negotiate and Liverpool could end up spending around £50m on the keeper's signature.

Is there a risk?

Of course! With any young player an element of risk is involved, but the fact that he is already established at an elite level at his age suggests that he will only get better.

Donnarumma played in 53 games in all competitions this season, and in that time conceded 55 goals and kept 21 clean sheets.

Despite being younger than Karius, the Italian would be an upgrade given that he has been able to cope with the pressures of playing for a big club.

Financially, it makes more sense for Liverpool given that Milan are willing to come down on their asking price.

In addition, it seems that the path is clear for the Reds to get their man as other suitors have pulled away.
