Everton boss Roberto Martinez believes Liverpool’s spending makes them favourites for the upcoming Merseyside derby, reports the Daily Mail.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, the Toffees boss believes the fact that cross-city rivals Liverpool have spent £242.5m on transfer since 2013 should edge them as favourites.
‘If you look at the amount of money Liverpool have spent in the last three seasons and the expectations they have, that would make them favourites’, stated the Spaniard.
He also believes scrutiny of opposing boss Brendan Rodgers is ‘normal’ after such heavy expenditure in recent years.
The Reds have seen a huge turnover in players, with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez departing Anfield.
Big money moves for the likes of Roberto Firmino, Christian Benteke and Adam Lallana have come as a result, cultivating a new look side for the red half of Merseyside.
Everton have not won this fixture since October 2010, but will look to continue their good form after a thrilling recent 3-2 win over West Brom.
