Ex-Liverpool boss holding out for stunning Anfield return

Rafael Benitez has rejected a fresh contract offer from Napoli in a bid to make a dramatic return to Liverpool, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Spaniard’s current deal with the Serie A side is set to expire at the end of the season, and as it stands he will be without a job by the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

Napoli appear keen to keep their boss in Naples, but Benitez himself has knocked their advances back as he holds out for a shock move back to Liverpool.

The former Valencia coach enjoyed a great deal of success with the Reds before his eventual exit in 2010, sealing the Champions League in his debut season as well as the FA Cup – two final victories that have gone down in club folklore.

He was linked with the role over the winter during Brendan Rodgers’ most difficult period of the season, but the Northern Irishman’s turnaround – Liverpool are unbeaten in league action 2015 – has caused such suggestions to fade.

However, Benitez has not yet given up on winning back his spot in the dugout.
