There is no doubting the talent that Nabil Fekir possesses as the playmaker has been an integral cog in Lyon's machine.

The France international was widely expected to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window, but fears over a knee problem led to the deal collapsing.

In the end, Fekir stayed put at Lyon and has gone on to score six goals and create four assists in 14 appearances in all competitions.

On Tuesday night, the attacking midfielder played 83 minutes against Manchester City, in which his side recorded a 2-2 draw against their Champions League opponents.

Lyon's attacking approach caught the eye of many, but Fekir was not as influential as he has been in previous matches.

Throughout his time on the pitch, the 25-year-old mustered just one shot on target and he failed to create a single meaningful pass.

Fekir was also clumsy on the ball a few times and only Memphis Depay was dispossessed more times than the midfielder.

The Frenchman had moments of brilliance, but due to some inconsistencies and injury niggles this season, Liverpool should draw a line under any potential pursuit.

Jurgen Klopp's side are in need of an additional creative spark given that they are yet to replace Philippe Coutinho.

Now, though, they should focus on other targets rather than Fekir, whose fitness issues could become a problem later down the line.
