While Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Exeter City in their FA Cup replay was a good result for Liverpool, it’s still apparent that they are lacking production from their forwards up top.
After 15 years of excellence in the Bundesliga, Jürgen Klopp should consider turning to his former league to solve problems at Anfield.
With Christian Benteke seemingly struggling to find a way of adapting to Klopp’s style of play and the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings all sidelined with injury for the long term, it’s fair to say Liverpool could really do with investing big on a goal scorer before the January window ends.
So here’s a look at five strikers Klopp should consider bringing to Anfield in the next week or so…
While luring the Bundesliga scoring leader away from Dortmund may be a difficult task, Aubameyang would be worth the cost for Liverpool.
Dortmund recently told Arsenal that the cost for the striker would be around £53.5million. The asking price for current Liverpool target Alex Teixeira has been reported to be around the £50million range as well.
If the club can afford to spend that kind of money on Teixeira, Klopp should consider a purchase of his former striker.
The Dutch forward has had a career filled with ups and downs, but ever since his arrival to Schalke 04 in 2010, Huntelaar has been a consistent threat.
In his six seasons with the club he has found the back of the net 114 times. He could be just what the Reds need to end their scoring woes.
Manchester United should be kicking themselves for letting red-hot striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez walk off to German club Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
The Mexican international has scored 19 goals in 20 appearances for the club, including a run where he netted 15 in just 12 matches – including one hat trick.
The former Red Devil has proven that he can play in the Premier League in years past and could be a perfect fit for Liverpool moving forward.
A little more reasonable target for Klopp could be former Chelsea forward Salamon Kalou. While the Ivorian has not always been consistent throughout his career, he has proven this season that he can still finish.
He has scored 11 goals in 19 appearances with Hertha Berlin this season. The Reds could pick him up for a cheaper price than other potential targets and he could still make an impact on the club, whether as a starter or coming off the bench.
Modeste impressed many with his hot start in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 6 goals in eight games. His finishing abilities attracted the likes of Arsenal, among others.
While his production has trailed off a bit in recent fixtures, Klopp should still target the 27-year-old Frenchman to make a run for a top four finish if other forwards become unavailable.
