To say the Liverpool garden is rosy would be an understatement at the moment. Indeed, there doesn’t appear to be a cloud in the sky for the Merseysiders, who are atop the Premier League, have scored more goals than any other side in the division and are, arguably, playing the best football in England right now.

Much of the above is down to their quite frankly brilliant front three players, with Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, having formed a triumvirate that is stopping even Daniel Sturridge – arguably the best English goal-getter – out of the side.

However, there is cause for concern, chiefly that Mane will be away with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations from early January for potentially a month, while Danny Ings’ season-ending knee injury has cut off a stand-in option already. Klopp has spoken of the need to sign someone in the New Year, and a plethora of reports regarding targets have emerged since.

With this in mind, here are FIVE young, talented, attainable and, crucially, suitable options…

Cristian Pavon

Perhaps a name not too familiar with Kopites, Pavon has been mooted as a Reds target by Football Whispers. The 20-year-old Argentine, of Boca Juniors, is an all-action attacking player, whose strengths are his pace, power and a direct approach – hallmarks of Klopp’s Liverpool. He’s already been likened to South American stars such a Luis Suarez and Carlos Tevez, due his bustling style of play, and with both players having thrived in the Premier League that makes positive reading.

Christian Pulisic

Mooted by the Daily Mail as an option in light of Ings’ injury, Pulisic’s name will come as no surprise to Liverpool supporters. The America international, who is just 18-years-old, has come on leaps and bounds at Dortmund over the course of the past 18 months and is widely considered to be one of the finest youngsters in world football. Dortmund are unlikely to be crazy about the idea of letting him go, but Klopp’s allure and the chance to play first-team football – he has much competition at BVB – may appeal.

Sardar Azmoun

Aligned with the Reds of late via the reliable Guardian, ‘the Iranian Lionel Messi’ is an interesting option. Azmoun, who plays his club football in Russia with FC Rostov, has impressed in recent times, netting nine goals in league action last term and notching three (two in qualification action) in the Champions League this season.

Azmoun is not an all-out striker and instead thrives in a more withdrawn role, in a somewhat similar way to Roberto Firmino.

Gregoire Defrel

Sassuolo have a decent recent pedigree in terms of nurturing attacking talent, with Simone Zaza and Domenic Berardi having thrived in the green and black shirt, and the latest name causing a stir in northern Italy in Defrel. The Frenchman is a versatile attacker capable of playing on either flank or in a central berth up top, and although his form has dipped somewhat of late after a five-games-five-goals stint around August and September, he’s still impressing. Liverpool have been aligned with him via TuttoMercatoWeb.

Bruma

A slight curveball here in that there are no genuine links between Liverpool and the Galatasaray player, but Bruma could be a tempting option. The 22-year-old Portuguese ace’s career has stagnated somewhat since he burst onto the scene as a teenager at Sporting CP, but he’s looking more and more like the player he promised to be nowadays in Turkey. Indeed, the uber-pacey winger has netted four goals for the Istanbul club in Super Lig action this term and is even attracting Arsenal and Spurs’ interest, according to Squawka.
