Five reasons Piotr Zielinski would be the perfect signing for Liverpool

The arrival of Euro 2016 has seen an unwelcome dip in the frequency of transfer stories coming out of the Premier League.

However, now it seems that one rumoured deal seems to be very much ‘back on’.

Reports have surfaced in Italy explaining that Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis believes Piotr Zielinski will be joining Liverpool. Zielinski, who is currently on the books at Udinese is thought to be a top target for Napoli.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, de Laurentiis stated;

“I negotiated for Zielinski with the Pozzo family and we finalised every detail. Instead, it now seems as if the player is doing everything possible to resist the move and not come here. He wants Liverpool.”

With a possible move to Anfield edging ever closer, we ask why the Polish star, currently with his national team in France, would be a great signing for Jurgen Klopp…

Piotr Zielinski

An attacking midfielder by trade, Zielinski has been known to play through the middle, or out wide, both to great effect. His versatility will allow him to provide suitable competition for the likes of James Milner, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino.

Zielinski’s immediate impact on the Liverpool team will likely be determined by Phillipe Countinho.

Should the Brazilian stay, the Polish star may spend a considerable amount of time on the bench at Anfield. Should Countinho move on however, expect to see Zielinski utilised far more frequently.

Suiting the System

Jurgen Klopp’s unique style of football requires certain squad attributes, most noticeably stamina and the ability to press quickly and efficiently. It is perhaps for this reason why Liverpool are so desperate to land Zielinski.

The 22-year-old is able to cover ground very quickly and has phenomenal stamina. He is also comfortable with slick, one-touch football and is capable of a superb ball. making him the ideal addition to a Klopp team.

International Promise

Zelinski is currently enjoying his summer in France with the Polish national team at Euro 2016. Despite not starting their Group C opener against Northern Ireland, Zielinski has been a key contributor to Poland’s qualification.

With 13 international caps and three goals already to his name, the young star will be one of the faces of an ever-improving Polish team for years to come, especially if he can prove he is of Premier League quality at Liverpool.

Best is yet to Come

With Jurgen Klopp looking to build towards the future and creating a Liverpool team that could dominate in years to come, Zielinski would be the perfect addition.

At just 22, the Pole has decent experience at a high level and will only be improving in the future.

With Klopp eyeing a number of young European stars this summer, expect to see Zielinski and co. grow in confidence and ability level under the German. After all, look what he did at Borussia Dortmund.

A Wise Head

Speaking to the media after a Serie A game in 2016, Empoli boss Marco Giampaolo stated of Piotr Zielinski: “Zielinski is on the right way to become a great player. He’s good in training, a serious guy. He will have a top level career for sure,”.

Giampaolo is not the only person to comment on Zielinski’s maturity in the game.

Many of the young star’s Polish team mates have also expressed how impressed they are with his growth and maturity, something that Jurgen Klopp would demand at Liverpool.
