Former boss plots Liverpool raid

Daniel Agger (Liverpool)Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is planning a raid on his former club Liverpool for out-of-favour centre-back Daniel Agger, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Danish international has recently lost his place in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI to Martin Skrtel following a spell on the sidelines through injury.

Despite being the Reds’ vice-captain, Agger faces a battle to re-establish himself in the club’s new back three set-up, with the likes of Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure also in fine form.

This has alerted Benitez, who is keen to bring the man he signed for the Anfield side from Brondby in 2006 to Naples.

The Spaniard is known to be a big fan of the classy defender, and sees him as the ideal player to help continue his plans at the San Paolo.

Agger has also been linked with Barcelona, but has recently declared that he is not looking to leave Merseyside.

However, Benitez is set to keep an eye in the situation in the hope that the 28-year-old grows frustrated by his first-team exile.

Napoli are also said to be keen on Skrtel, while Pepe Reina – who is rumoured to be set to join Barca at the end of the season – is on loan at the club from Liverpool.
