Former Italy coach slams misfiring Liverpool striker

Arrigo Sacchi – the former coach of the Italian national side – has criticised Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli for his lack of teamwork.

Balotelli joined the Reds in a £16 million deal in August as Brendan Rodgers sought to find a replacement for Luis Suarez, and while the signing was seen as something of a bargain at the time, the Italy international has struggled so far this season, scoring just twice in all competitions and failing to find the net once in the Premier League.

Although Balotelli enjoyed a successful 18 months at AC Milan prior to his move to Anfield, Rossoneri legend Sacchi is happy that the Serie A outfit decided to sell the player.

“Balotelli is not a player, because a player moves as part of a team,” Sacchi said.

“He’s just a footballer.”

Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday was their fifth loss in the Premier League this season, which has heaped pressure on Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
