Former Liverpool boss not planning Anfield raid

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez has revealed that he is not planning to raid his former club Liverpool for flop striker Mario Balotelli.

The Italian forward only joined the Reds in a £16m deal from AC Milan over the summer, but his woeful start – he’s yet to score in the Premier League – to life at Anfield has prompted rumours of a swift return to Serie A.

Napoli have been mooted as a potential destination for the 24-year-old, with the Naples-based side having stuttered so far this term.

‘Balo’ was recently re-called to the Azzurri squad for their international games after being axed on a few occasions since the World Cup, but Benitez says that he has no interest in the former Inter Milan star:

“There is absolutely nothing in it. I have never considered Balotelli as an option,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.

Benitez wen on to say that Balotelli will win over Liverpool fans if he works hard on the pitch:

“The Liverpool fans are loyal. If he works hard on the field they will always support him.”

The Napoli boss is rumoured to remain keen on Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva, who has been a bit part player this season.
