Liverpool’s last two summer transfer windows have been busy affairs. The likes of Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke arrived for massive fees just last year, while in 2014 the Merseyside club looked to build on the ‘nearly’ season they enjoyed by landing Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Mario Balotelli, among others, for considerable sums. But, it must be said, neither flurry yielded success.
Indeed, there are arguments that Brendan Rodgers, who oversaw both the spends, was not actually in charge of choosing the players thrust upon him, but it’s hard to see the same excuse being aligned with Jurgen Klopp this time around. The German commands a superior level of respect given that he’s one of the very best coaches on the planet with a proven track record, while his persona suggests that he will not be bullied by voices in the corridors of Anfield into signing players he ultimately doesn’t want.

It’s difficult to believe that Liverpool would have any genuine chance of signing the 23-year-old without the influence of their coach, so it seems that this is a move that the charismatic 48-year-old has sanctioned.
Alas, Gotze alone will not be enough for the Reds as they look to make themselves top four regulars, and with quality over quantity, arguably, the best approach, here are TEN options linked with the club to follow the Bayern Munich playmaker…
