Stan Collymore has written in his Daily Mirror column that Jack Grealish should choose Liverpool over Manchester United should he leave Aston Villa.

What did he say?

The former Reds striker was writing about the 24-year-old, with him having been linked with both of England's most successful clubs. Andy Gray has said he would easily get into the European champions' side, whilst United have been directly linked with him.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

The 48-year-old, though, would rather seem him at Anfield than Old Trafford.

He said: "I know I am biased towards Jack Grealish but the stats don't lie. For him to become the first English midfielder to register 15 goals/assists since Frank Lampard in 2009/10, in an average to poor team, is a superb effort.

"His talent deserves a better platform, and if you were to stick Grealish in that Liverpool midfield and let him service their magic front three, the kid could be one of Europe's most effective midfielders.

"He could even have an England team built around him. Forget Manchester United, Grealish will be waiting five years to reach the level he could get to at Anfield."

The obvious choice for Grealish

Collymore has some high praise indeed for Grealish - who Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Man United would £70m for if Villa demanded that fee - and he is having a fantastic campaign in the top flight.

So far this term, he has seven goals and five assists in the Premier League, and if you add on the two goals and one assist he has managed in the League Cup, that does indeed take him to 15 goal contributions for the season. Although he is yet to play for the Three Lions, it is surely only a matter of time before he is called up to the squad.

In regards to a move from Villa Park, Liverpool would clearly be a far better move than United. Liverpool are currently in imperious form, and are arguably the best team in the world right now - their victory at the Club World Cup pretty much proves that. The Red Devils, meanwhile, currently lie in fifth, and things do not seem too positive.

The improvement of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah since joining Liverpool, for example, represent good omens for Grealish. Since moving to Anfield, both have won a Premier League Golden Boot and have finished in the top five of the Ballon d'Or.

Examples of United forwards to have improved since joining, though, is a lot shorter. Questions still remain over Anthony Martial, for example, whilst Angel Di Maria lasted just one year before moving to PSG.

As Jurgen Klopp tries to put together a long period of domination, Grealish could slot in very nicely, whilst the pressure and overall doom and gloom at Old Trafford could weigh down on him. In this case, Collymore may just be right, but for now, he has a job to do with Villa.
