Danny Murphy told the The Mail on Sunday on January 12 that Jack Grealish would improve Liverpool's team.

What did he say?

The 24-year-old has been in fantastic form so far this campaign for Aston Villa, scoring six goals and providing five assists despite his side struggling towards the foot of the table.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Murphy believes that he is better than some of the options already at Jurgen Klopp's disposal. He said: "“Even though Liverpool are currently well-stocked for midfielders, what if Gini Wijnaldum doesn’t sign a new contract and James Milner gets to a certain age?

"Could Jack do the hard yards Jurgen Klopp demands? Yes. Would I have him ahead of Naby Keita for example? Yes. He is a dribbler, a strong player who can receive the ball in tight areas and carry it forward"

Move in the summer?

There is no doubting that Grealish has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, and the interest in his signature comes as no surprise - Manchester United have been the side particularly linked with his services.

Right now, though, he would cost far too much for Liverpool to realistically consider, especially given that they are currently doing so well with the team they currently have. Grealish is currently valued by Transfermarkt at £31.5m, and given the situation the Villans currently find themselves in, they cannot afford to let him leave no matter the price.

In the summer, though, it could be an altogether different situation. Villa are currently staring relegation in the face as they lie in 18th place, and should they drop back down to the Championship, Grealish cannot go with them. He is too good to play second-tier football, and deserves to playing in the top flight, even if that means leaving his boyhood club.

Villa would still like to command a big fee, but their hands may be tied due to their financial situation. They took a huge gamble and spent £133.74m in the summer transfer window, speculating to hopefully accumulate. Relegation, though, could put them in the firing line of FIFA Fair Play regulations. With Grealish being their most valuable asset, he will be the first on the list of potential departures, but they will not be in too strong a position to play hardball.

This is where Liverpool could swoop and prey on the weak. He would be a good addition to the side as his offensive statistics show, and with plenty of years left in front of him, he would be one not just for the now, but for the future as well. Murphy's words should plant a seed in the minds of the club's hierarchy. They would be mad not to move on it if the stars align.

In other news, this Liverpool target is as good as Sadio Mane at his peak.
