Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to state their desire to see the currently injured Joe Gomez come straight back into the starting XI ahead of Joel Matip.
Gomez was enjoying a stunning season alongside Virgil van Dijk, in which the former Charlton man was earning rave reviews left, right and centre, before his setback.
Has Alisson been Liverpool’s most important signing of the season? Check out the video below to find out why Jurgen Klopp thinks so…
The 21-year-old hasn’t played since the beginning of December after suffering a fractured leg away to Burnley, an injury that required surgery.
In his absence, Cameroonian international Joel Matip has come into the team and performed impressively, which will be sure to give Jurgen Klopp a selection headache upon Gomez’s return to full fitness.
Whilst the German may potentially be undecided on what to do regarding this situation, the Liverpool fans seem more sure of what they’d do if it was up to them.
Dropping Matip for Gomez almost instantly upon the latter’s return would be a real kick in the teeth for the former Schalke man, especially as he has been so good in the England international’s absence.
Plenty of Reds supporters on Twitter have voiced their support for the young Englishman, so let’s take a look at a few of the tweets…
I think Matip has won a lot of fans round with his performances since having an extended run alongside Van Dijk and was excellent once again last night.
But with Gomez likely to return after the international break, does he go straight back in or should Matip keep his place?

When Gomez is fit he starts. He is stronger, faster more composed, makes less mistakes.

Matip has been sound since coming in, still think he's a bit dodgy but he'll be solid back up for Gomez going foward #LFC

Can’t wait to get Gomez back, so I don’t have to see Matip week in, week out
